As one of the representative schools in North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power (NCWU), the College of Energy&Power Engineering has been committed to the talent training and the applied research in energy industries, especially hydropower industry. The College originated from the Machinery & Electrical Department founded in 1951, one of the first departments in NCWU. At the initial stage, Power Engineering, formerly known as Electromechanical Installation of Hydropower Station, was the only major. The major of Thermal Power Engineering was established in 1985. In 2000, the existing two majors were integrated as Thermal Energy & Power Engineering, renamed as Energy & Power Engineering in 2012. The major of Nuclear Engineering & Nuclear Technology was established in 2011. In 2015, the School joined the Belt & Road Initiative, led the BRICS NU in in the field of energy, and created the China-Russia Ural Academy jointly. With the efforts in more than 70 years, the School has accumulated a profound academic heritage, formed a harmonious educational atmosphere, trained a large number of outstanding talents, and won a good social reputation.
The College of Energy & Power Engineering has 1 doctoral degree program for Water Conservancy & Hydropower Engineering, 1 academic master's degree program for Power Engineering & Thermophysics, 2 professional master's degree programs for Energy & Power. One doctoral program for Power Engineering and Thermalphysics Engineering has beenunder establishment.Currently, the School encompasses two undergraduate majors including Energy & Power Engineering (divided into Hydropower Engineering and Thermal Engineering), Nuclear Engineering & Nuclear Technology. These majors encompasshydropower, thermal power and nuclear energyin the field of power generation. The major of Energy Storage Engineering has been added in 2023. Among them, Energy & Power Engineering is a national advanced and characteristic specialty major and also a national outstanding engineer education and training program major.
The College of Energy & Power Engineering currently has 65 faculties, among whom 16 professors, 14 associate professors, 37 with doctoral degrees, 6 doctoral supervisors and 46 master's supervisors (15 of whom are off-campus part-time tutors). There are 1 dual-employed academician, 5 foreign experts, 1 provincial outstanding expert, 2 provincial academic and technical leaders, 1 Central Plains Youth Thousand Talents, 2 provincial famous teaching teachers, 2 provincial teaching pacesetters, and provincial outstanding teachers, 2 provincial advanced teaching teams, 1 excellent teaching team and 3 school famous teachers. The College has 4 departments respectively for Hydropower Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Nuclear Engineering andEnergy Storage Engineering.
